Waterbed
Heater Buying Guide
Standard Cap and Bulb
Standard
cap and bulb waterbed heaters are a good basic heating system for waterbeds. These heaters
have a copper wire filled with ethylene gas, that controls the
temperature of the bed. The heating pad is installed under the safety liner and
the control is mounted to the side of the frame. Standard bulb and cap waterbed heaters are not as accurate as solid-state
heaters and are not as energy efficient. All of our standard heaters are
shielded to eliminate magnetic fields.
Solid State Heaters
Unlike a Bulb and cap system,
the solid-state heaters use a computer chip to regulate temperature and have no
moving parts. Most solid-state heaters are far more accurate and are very
energy efficient. Our solid-state heaters are accurate to within one tenth of
one degree. The better heaters have a tuck control design that allows the control
to be slipped under the water mattress. This results in a clean look, with no
control mounted to the frame as it is hidden away and out of reach of
inquisitive youngsters reach.
Softside Heaters
Softside waterbeds work on
the same principles as hardside waterbed heaters however they work at a lower
wattage. You should never use a heater that is designed for a hardside waterbed
with a softside waterbed.
